LUDHIANA: A special drive has been launched in Jagraon, Ropar and Mohali areas to flush out suspected Babbar Khalsa activists. Definite information has been received that certain militant outfits were trying to reorganize. Though no arrests have been made so far, but certain persons are likely to be rounded up, said, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Ludhiana range, Shashi Kant while addressing media persons last week. He said some of the top militants, who were staying abroad but had their functionaries here, were trying to enroll new members and for this they had selected sensitive areas of Jagraon, Ropar and Mohali from Ludhiana district and some other districts in the state.
Besides, the DIG said, the ISI agency of Pakistan was also active in these areas to disturb the law and order situation by once again trying to spread militancy, to meet this challenge, the security forces were taking a chances, he added. Highlighting the achievements by the security forces, the DIG said that the district police had arrested four militants and three JK militants during the past six months. To step Up security measures in Ludhiana city, the DIG has also appealed to the general public to call the Police control room at 100 in case any unnumbered vehicle or anybody in civilian clothes was Seen Carrying firearms.
