Kiran Bhandal 12 a fifth grade pupil at Jefferson Elementary School in Maplewood N.J. won first prize in the Statue of Liberty essay contest organized by the South Orange Board of Education.
She has also received the C.A.R.E.S. commendation award on two occasions and is an active member of the book club of the South Orange.
