WASHINGTON: Serious discontent is reported among junior officers of the Indian Embassy and various Consulate offices following Indian government’s notification last week regarding their increase in hours of Work in the offices. It is understood that this step has been taken in pursuance of the fourth pay commission recommendation.
Government of India has advised its offices in United States to work ‘one hour more every day. However, the junior clerical staff in these offices is reportedly very unhappy about this because there has been no corresponding pay increase along with the increase in the hours of work. The staff pointed out that they are already being paid $500,00 a month, though the consulate is not subject to local rules of minimum wages act still the money is insufficient. Staff has also pointed out that though they don’t have to pay taxes the money paid is very insufficient to meet the routing costs of living.
