AHMEDABAD: The Deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal came down heavily on the VHP following slogan shouting by Vishwa Hindu Parishad men here for creating the communal situation in the country.
As Devi Lal arrived at the venue of the meeting with Khadi and diamond workers here VHP workers started shouting slogans demanding construction of Ram Temple at Ayodhya. Persuasion by local MLAs was of no avail. The VHP workers had to be removed by the police during Devi Lals address. Devi Lal said the forces of communalism had played havoc with the country. This had to be curtailed at any cost and the govt ‘was determined to do it.
Communal forces like the VHP had been rejected by the electorate and could be gauged by the fact that the Hindu Mahasabha had only one member in parliament.
