NEW DELHI: The Delhi police commissioner Mukund Behari Kaushal on Saturday denied that his personnel had uncovered any plot to kill Punjab chief minister Beant Singh when two Sikh youths were arrested at the Indira Gandhi international airport on Friday.

The police had picked up an incoming Sikh passenger Narinder Singh as well as his associate who came to receive him. Media later reported that a plot that kills Beant Singh had been detected. It said that the two Sikhs belonged to militant groups.

However the Delhi police after preliminary investigation released the two Sikhs.

Evidently some Indian agencies put out the story of the plot to frighten Beant Singh in the context of the forthcoming talks on Punjab water issue.
