New Delhi — The metropolitan magistrate, Mr. O. P. Gogne will hear a defamation complaint filed by journalist Rahul Bedi against the Delhi High Court judge. Mr. Yogeshwar Dayal for allegedly describing journalists as ‘‘wretched.”

Bedi, a reporter working with the Indian Express, said in his complaint that the remark of Justice Dayal, made in open court on February 6 and published in newspaper, had caused him “‘tremendous mental strain” and loss of prestige in society. Bedi has cited Justice B. N. Kirpal as one of his witnesses.

Manila, Philippines — At least 21 communist rebels and a soldier have been killed since the army launched a dry season offensive two weeks ago on guerrillas in the central Philippines, the staterun news agency said today.
