TORONTO: A 30centermeterlong ‘Structural crack has been found in the door of an Air India jumbo jet that arrived in Toronto after a transatlantic flight from London. Maintenance staff found the crack on the Boeing 747 after the fight Crew asked them to check out a “whistling” or leaking door, said Don Enns, an investigator with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.

“When the Air Canada maintenance People looked at it, they said it would have to be repaired before the aircraft would be allowed to go anywhere because there was a structural crack in the door,” he said.

One of the doors on the jet apparently started leaking air during a flight from New Delhi to Toronto last ‘week.

Airline spokesperson Ashok Parashar downplayed the incident, saying it was not a major problem,

But Enns said Air India engineering staff had to contact Boeing staff in Seattle to design a temporary repair for the crack so the 18yearold jet could be flown back to India.
