LUDHIANA: The CPI and the CPM have decided to unitedly Contest the elections to the Punjab Vidhan Sabha and the Lok Sabha

A decision to this effect has been taken by the two parties at the national level.

Disclosing this at Jagraon Tuesday Piara Singh Deosi General Secretary of the CPIs Punjab unit told The Tribune that the two parties would have adjustment of seats while watching the interests of each other.

The CPI wanted a national level understanding of political parties to put up common candidates for the elections to the Punjab Vidhan Sabha and the Lok Saha to fight the secessionist elements Such fan understanding it felt would cement the unity of the nationalist parties and the state units would have better coordination.

Deosi emphasized that before any such understanding was possible the Congress government at the Center had to take the political initiative to enable political parties to come to an understanding.

The announcement of a political package was important because the Congress was responsible for the present situation and it must make a change in its approach and policy towards Punjab “Sincere and homes efforts must be made by the Center to solve take Punjab problem” asserted Deosi.

He maintained that the package should be announced by the Prime Minister immediately to enable national political panties to come to an understanding. The announcement of political package might not end terrorism in Punjab. But it would help in reaching an understanding and also enhance the credibility of the central government.

The moderate and traditional kali leaders must be included in this process. Captain Kanwaljit Singh General Secretary of the kali Dal headed by Kabul Singh me this in Chandigarh on Monday and they discussed the Punjab situation and also the possibility of having some understanding.
