The two-day annual conference of the Council of Khalistan was held on the weekend of October 78, 1995, in the beautiful Sikh gurdwara of El Sobrante in northern California. One hundred (100) delegates attended the conference from all over North America. The first day’s conference agenda consisted of group discussion ‘on topics related to Sikh freedom, the delegates were divided into six afferent groups, each group headed by a moderator.

Some of the major topics selected for debate and discussion were: What should be our role in the struggle for Khalistan’, led by S. Balbir Singh Ragi; Bhakti and Shakti and their relevance to the present struggle, led by S. Paramjit Singh; Should we rely ‘on the Akalis to define our future?, led by Dr, Raminder Singh Dhadli; ‘What is the role of the younger generation of Sikhs in the present struggle for freedom?, led by Jaideep Singh; how to strengthen the struggle for freedom in Khalistan, led by Dr. Paramjit Singh Ajrawat; and the role of gurdwaras in the struggle for freedom, led by Bibi Paramjit Kaur. The lively discussion on these topics lasted for more than four hours, the day’s session concluded with a summary of the recommendations made by each group. The second day of the conference was heavily attended by the Bay Area Sikh population. After the shabad kirtan, delegates addressed the Sangat.

Dr, Raminder Singh Dhadli, Dr. P.S. Ajrawat, and Paramjit Singh Sekhon made very persuasive speeches. Bibi Paramjit Kaur gave the audience a powerful message by reciting a poem on the Sikh struggle, The young speakers, Satinder Pal Singh, Bobby Singh Kahlon, and Ranjit Kaur, left a vivid impression on the Sangat by their recitations in poetry and prose. In his presidential speech, Dr. Gurmit Singh Aulakh made everyone aware. of the plight of Sikhs in Punjab, Khalistan. He exhorted the attendees to dedicate themselves to the glory of Sikh freedom and the liberation of Khalistan, The conference ended with a reading of the resolutions by S. Gurdial Singh, who acted as the coordinator of the conference.
