NEW DELHE: The Supreme Court has finally ordered the arrest of five police officials responsible for the handcuffing and beating up of a chief judicial magistrate which led to nationwide protests and strike by lawyers.

The CJM, Mr. N.L, Patel was taken from his house to the police station in Naidad and an attempt was made to force him to drink liquor. His clothes wore torn and he had bruises all over his body.

The incident reportedly occurred after the CJM refused to grant further police remand to an accused in a murder case. A few days ago Mr. Patel had also passed strictures on the police in a cheating case.

Inspector S.R Sharma who headed the police party had alleged that the Magistrate had slapped him while drunk. Gujarat state where the incident occurred enforces prohibition.
