CARUTHERS,CA: “Our clients Come first” said Mrs. Jothan Kaur, wife of Harry (Harinder) Singh Gill, Partner in the award winning Gill Insurance agency. For the past three years the company has been the largest Raisin Crop insurer in the nation and this year marked the second time that the firm was the overall largest all ‘Weather crop insurer.
The brothers, who originally came from Chandigarh, arrived in North “America in 1981. Avtar Singh arrived in the Fresno area and Harry Singh and his parents went to Canada. In 1989 Harry too came to the U.S. to join his brother in business. Two sisters still live in Montreal and one currently resides in L.A. Sardar Gurdey Singh ji and Sardarni Kuldip Kaur Gill is presently visiting in Punjab. (Note; we send best wishes for a speedy recovery to Sardarni ji who was injured in a gas explosion and is recovering in the Hospital) ‘Avtar and Harry were both engineering students before going into the insurance business in 1988, Avtar got a start when he went to work for a valley broker who had many Punjabi clients and who needed help in serving their needs. When the broker’s business unfortunately failed, Avtar was there to pick up the pieces and help the farmers that had become his friends and clients.
In 1988 & 89 the business was 95% Punjabi’ immigrants and was being nin Out of the family home, But it quickly grew and the Gills bought a building in Caruthers in 1990. Because of their knowledge, service and professionalism their clientele has grown consistently and now is nearly 25% non-Punjabi as well.
The brothers are always on the road, serving customers from Chico to Bakersfield and the office is managed by Jothan Kaur whose education and family background, (her mother was a lecturer and her father a lawyer), gave her the ability to keep things running in top order Hany and Avtar are both family oriented and each has two children, Aviar’s wife Jaswinder jit Kaur is kept busy with two growing preteen sons and Harry and Jothan have a 3yearold daughter and a 10montholdson.
Last week, the Gill Agency was honored by the Rain and Hail Insurance Company a division of Cigna) when the company president and vice president visited the Caruthers gurdwara Sahib, providing the Langar for the Sangat to show their appreciation for the exceptional job that Harry and ‘Aviar have provided their valley customers.
This is just the beginning of the company’ enterprises as they are now adding more insurance lines to their brokerage so that they can be full service, Farm/Ranch policy writers. ‘As well as the insurance agency, the Gill brothers have a 90 acre ranch, a gas station and a strip mall in the Caruthers, Ca area.
