SANFRANCISCO: Parminder Singh an Indian cab driver was murdered during an attempted cab robbery in the Richmond district of San Francisco on March 20 1992 Deputy chief of San Francisco Frank Reed and officer Napoleon Hendrix moved in quickly and arrested the alleged assassin and helped in conveying the sad news to the US Embassy in Delhi. Harmit Kaur was shocked by the news about the death of her husband. She approached the US Embassy in New Delhi to get a visa herself and her eight month daughter Antarpreet Kaur to attend the last rites of her husband. But in the view of her young age the visa was refused Friends of Singh approached prominent community activists Ashok Bhat member commission on prevention of Hate and Violence state of California and Darshan Singh commission Bhatt immediately rushed to the office of Lt. Gov. Leo Mac Carthy and San Francisco Congress- woman Nancy Pelosi for help. Both the politicians took up the matter with US Embassy and within four hours the widow and her infant daughter were issued visas by the US Embassy in Delhi.
