BEIJING: China has conveyed to Pakistani caretaker government that it was “looking forward … with great enthusiasm” to president Ghulam Ishaq Khan’s visit later this month when he will attend the September 22 opening ceremony of the eleventh Asian Games.

So far the Pakistani president is the only foreign head of state whose presence at the Asiad opening ceremony has been confirmed,

Chinese Ambassador TianDing was Monday reported to have conveyed to caretaker Prime Minister Ghulam Mustafa Jatoi, Premier Li Peng’s greetings, adding that as a “friendly, China cherishes the unity, stability and prosperity of Pakistan.”

In reply, Jatoi said it was a “manifestation of the friendship between the two countries that their leaders exchange visits very frequently.”

He said Pakistani Chinese relations were a model of friendship which had stood the test of time and expressed gratitude for China’s assistance to Pakistan.
