BEIJING: Ace Indian athlete P.T. Usha has been selected by the China sports press association as cone of the ten best sport persons in Asia in 1989.
The association handed over to the Indian embassy here a certificate and gifts of artistic Chinese tea set and tray to be sent across to Usha.
The association had invited various sports organizations in China to nominate the ten best candidates from Asia and tallied their responses to arrive at the final ten.
However it did not state what ‘was Usha’s position within the top ten in Asia.
Usha had been previously chosen by the China sports press association for the 1987 toppers list and is the best known Indian athlete in China.
Usha’s dilemma whether to continue in athletics or bow to her parents’ wishes and opt for matrimony has been keenly reported to the Chinese press. .
