NEW DELHI: The Criminal Bureau of Investigations has filed a case of criminal trespass following disclosures of telephone tapping of the senior Janata Dal leader Chandra shekhar. This follows a directive from the govt that the matter be probed thoroughly,.
The issue rocked Parliament last week following publication of a report in a weekly. The CBI enquiry will try to establish how the phone was tapped and his house bugged. It will also ascertain who ordered the tapping.
Tapping is a serious offense punishable with up to three years imprisonment CBI sources said.
According to sources in Punjab phones of human rights activists are frequently tapped and their mail is opened.
