NEW DELHI; The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has begun a probe into the killing of a couple allegedly by Punjab Police as part of its coven counter-militant operation in Tiljala near Calcutta last year sources said here on May 27.

Mr R. S Punla CBIs Deputy Superintendent of Police is the investigating officer of the case.

The Special Home Secretary’s May 17 letter to the CBI Director said; According to the Supreme Court order the incident of gunning down of one Lachman Singh and his wife Rani at Tiljala in Calcutta by the Punjab Police on May 17,1993 has to be investigated by the CBI

The Supreme Court has ordered the CBI to send form nightly progress reports about the investigations It warned that any hindrance caused in the investigations would be communicated to the court.
