NEW DELHI: Top Janata Dal leaders led by party president S.R.Bommai met Shahi Imam the high priest of Jamma Masjid Syed Abdullah Bukhari and conveyed him that the Janata Dal would abide by the three conditions laid down by him for political parties seeking support of the Muslims in the elections.

The talks which lasted about 90 minutes were held in a cordial atmosphere source close to the Imam said.

While the Imam was assisted by Deputy Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari in the talks Janata Dal delegation included Mohammad Afzal M.P. Ajit Singh Rashid Masud and Kishore Lal.

Masud claimed that the “rift” between the Imam and certain Janata Dal parliamentary board members had been sorted out.

The conditions put forth by the Imam are Representation to Muslims in parliament and assemblies in proportion to their population, Muslim candidates should enjoy support and be able to espouse the cause of the com- munity and Muslim candidates should be fielded from the Muslims dominated.
