CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Chief Minister. Harcharan Singh Brar, has declared that the law and order politics of the state will be based on the fundamental principle or jurisprudence that there cannot be any law without order and order without law.
In a policy statement released at the meet the press program organized by the Chandigarh Press Club here, Brar said, “The mile of law shall prevail, human rights will be respected and atmosphere of peace and tranquility will be maintained at all costs.” He ‘made it clear that consolidating the pains of law and order will be the top priority and for this he sought the ‘cooperation of all political parties. He said his government would fight the antinational forces and the forces of “terrorism” and separatism with a ‘strong determination.
Outlining his political approach, he maintained he did not believe in the philosophy of unnecessary confrontation, “Constructive cooperation and support for the preservation of the country is what I seek,” he added. At the same time, he said it would not be misconstrued as a sign of weakness.
He ruled out the removal of the Director General of Police, K.P.S. Gill in the wake of the Supreme Court direction to the Chandigarh Judicial Magistrate to prosecute him in the case of alleged viola on of modesty ‘of Mrs. Rupan Deol Bajaj, a senior JAS officer. “The law of the land holds are innocent all proved otherwise.” he pointed out. He said there were no directors from the Supreme Court to the Punjab government in this case. The case does not concern Panjab as the incident took place in the Union Territory of Chandigarh, he added.
About granting extensions to officers after retirement he said could be considered in some specific cases thriving his policy towards Akalis, he said, “We do not agree with their policies” and dubbed them as communal. Regarding the transferor Chandigarh to Punjab, Brar said it was built for Punjab and should go to Punjab. He said he was for the solution of all the pending disputes in favor of Punjab.
