SRINAGAR, INDIA, Oct 27, Reuter: At least 18 people were injured on Thursday as a wave of bombings and shootings rocked Srinagar, summer capital of the north Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, police and witnesses said.
The violence came as anti-Indian activists called a general strike in protest at the anniversary of Kashmir’s accession to India following Independence in 1947.
Nine people, including a woman judge, were hurt when a bomb exploded under a car in a crowded part of central Srinagar.
A bomb thrown by suspected Moslem militants shortly afterwards injured eight policemen; police said another officer was wounded in firing between militants and security forces.
Earlier gunmen sprayed bullets at a factory bus but nobody was injured.
