BOMBAY: Police fought a gun battle March 15 with women who may be linked to some of the explosions that devastated Bombay last week, but the suspects escaped.
Officials said police had been looking for the men based on eye witness descriptions of suspects believed to have left suitcase bombs in three hotels.
About 300 people were killed and 1,100 more wounded when 13 bombs exploded across the city Friday, devastating India’s largest stock market, a large section of the financial district, apartment buildings and hotels.
In Washington Monday, the US State Department warned Americans against traveling to India. Department spokesman Richard Boucher said information “suggests there may be a heightened threat at this time of additional acts of terrorism centered in New Delhi.
“Americans are encouraged to deter temporarily travel to New Delhi,” he said.
