NEW DELHI: The BJP Friday urged the chief election commissioner, T.N .Seshan, to ensure round the clock patrolling by the army up to the date of elections in Punjab. This was needed in view of the treat of poll boycott and a bandh call given by some Akali groups on February 18 and 19. In a letter to Seshan, the senior BJP leader, K.L. Sharma, said it was clear from his recent visit to the state that the next four days would be crucial. The election commission, he said, should take all possible steps to ensure that the elections were held in a free and fair atmosphere.

Sharma suggested some measures to instill confidence among the People which included round the clock patrolling by the Army till the date of election.
