PATIALA: Bir Devinder Singh former chief whip of the Congress Legislative Party was arrested here July 1 for alleged violation of the prohibitory orders.
Bir Devinder Singh who took up the cause of the flood victims of July 1993 floods had staged a dhama outside the municipal authorities to take measures to prevent the floods in this rainy season.
Meanwhile the Press secretary of the Save Batiala Committee Sant Singh in a signed statement said that Bir Devinder Singh was taken away by the police on Friday at 10:00 p.m. from his residence and his whereabouts were not being disclosed
A deputation of the SPC met the Deputy Commissioner T.C. Gupta here on Saturday for the release of Bir Devinder Singh.
The committee members alleged Bir Devinder Singh was arrested following registration of a case against him on fabricated charges.
