NEW YORK, Nov. 16 : Sikhs assembled at Gurdwara Richmond Hill to celebrate Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s birth anniversary responded in a big way to the appeal to subscribe to World Sikh News. Over 70 subscribers filled in the subscription forms on the spot, some of them offering life membership and others for ten, five, four, three, two ‘and one year.

‘Speaking on the occasion, Prof. MS. Sidhu, Editor W.S.N traced the background of the current problem and identified the forces that are determined to teach Sikhs a lesson. “How can Sikhs feel secure in a country where perpetrators of heinous crimes against Sikhs are honoured with Cabinet positions, where destroyers of the holy Akal Takht are given gallantry awards,” he asked.

After his speech S. He elaborated on the need for an effective Sikh media and reminded that if Sikhs continued to show apathy to the necessity of dessiminating correct information and projecting proper image of Sikhs then, “We will continue to be unjustly branded as “terrorists.

The highlight of the celebrations was one hour Katha by Bhai Gurdeep Singh who talked about Guru Nanak’s divine message that had brought in a floodlight of new ‘awareness and dispelled the darkness of ignorance. Kirtan Jathas kept the audience spellbound by singing devotional hymns. Children participated by singing Shabads, Two small girls made short speeches on the life of Guru Nanak.
