CHANDIGARH, India: In a well-planned political operation, Mr. Bhajan Lal resigned from Haryana Chief Minister ship and was replaced by Mr. Bansi Lal, Union Railway Minister, who was unanimously elected the leader of Haryana Congress (I) legislature party the same evening on June 4th, Mr. Bansi Lal was sworn-in as the new Chief Minister in the Raj Bhawan, About twelve other new ministers were also sworn-in with Mr. Bansi Lal, Most of the ministers of the Cabinet of Mr. Bhajan Lal were not given any place in the new Cabinet. The Union Government demanded the resignation of Mr. Bhajan Lal after his refusal to accept the proposal of the Union of the areas in lieu of Chandigarh to Haryana.
