A Moss Point school teacher, Dr. Singh is actively involved in national, state, and local educational associations. Actively involved in the state’s Democratic Party and voter registration efforts, Dr. Singh was elected by the Mississippi Democratic Party 10 serve as an elector of the Electoral College for the state of Mississippti in the 1992 Presidential Election. He is a former member of Jackson County and Mississippi State Democratic Executive Committees. Dr. Singh is now a democratic candidate for the Mississippi House of Representatives seat for District 111 this: election year.

Balwant Singh has been named in 13 prestigious editions of volumes recognizing leading citizens on the basis of his outstanding educational background and varied teaching experiences, as well as his outstanding civic and professional contributions to the community, state, and nation. A few of the biographical volumes in which he has been chosen for inclusion are: Who’s Who in American Education (1957-85). Directory of Distinguished Americans, )(1983-84), Who’s Who in America (198586), and International Who’s Who of intellectuals (1983-84), He is the recipient of the Outstanding Elementary Teachers of America Award (1975)and the Phi Alpha Phi Major Drum Award (1985). Singh is an active member of the Sikh Society of the South, headquartered in New Orleans, LA. He is a former president of this organization and was a member of the Religious and Educational Committee of the World Sikh Organization. Dr. Singh and his wife, Mohinder Kaur, a former school teacher who taught in the Moss Point school system for 12 years, have one son, Ravinder, and one daughter, Davinder. Ravinder is a graduate of Millsaps College and is currently working on his Ph.D. at Florida State University, Davinder is a graduate of Yale University and is completing hire final year of medical school at Columbia University Primary election date August 8.
