HYDERABAD: Mohammed Azharuddin was Friday pitchforked into the toughest job in Indian cricket—the captaincy of the national side.
He will lead the Indian team to tour New Zealand later this month.
In what many see as an unending game of musical chairs, Azharuddin could not be blamed with the choice of the selection committee.
The selection committee seemed to repose confidence that Azharuddin, who will be 27 on February eight, would do well despite his negligible experience as captain.
Srikkanth’s decision to stay away from the Duleep Trophy matches after leading India in Pakistan and his poor performance with the bat has been cited as the reason for his sacking. PTI
