DANVILLE: Satish Singh, Brinder Singh and Sarabjit Singh, all claiming association with the All India Sikh Student Federation and having been persecuted by the Punjab police were granted asylum by the Immigration & Naturalization asylum office in San Francisco.

The Immigration Service determined that each of them has established a well-founded fear of persecution upon return to their homeland. Therefore in accordance with Section 208(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, their request for asylum is granted.

Satish Singh came from Kapurthala, is married and was locked up by the Punjab police three times overran extended time. He bore torture indices in support of his claim.

Sarabjit Singh came from Ludhiana with his wife and two minor children, all the four have been granted asylum. Before reaching United States he stayed in Canada for a short time. He claimed further association with Babbar Khalsa and took pan in demonstrations exposing police brutality.

Brinder Singh is single, came from Moga on Aug.1, 93, entered USA near Niagra Falls and claimed linkage with Akali Dal as well, His right arm had burn marks, and damaged toes which he claimed he suffered at the hands of Punjab and CRPF police.

Each of the asylee is entitled to become a permanent resident a year after being granted asylum.
