CALCUTTA: West Bengal will go to polls to choose representatives for its state assembly and the national Parliament simultaneously in the second half of May this year.

The West Bengal state committee of the Communist Party of India ( Marxist) the dominant partner of the nine-party ruling left front at an emergency meeting Sunday night favored holding of assembly election simultaneously with the Lok Sabha (lower house of Parliament) poll according to CPI (M) state unit secretary Sailen Dasgupta.

With other major front partners like Forward Bloc and the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) having already made known their preference for a simultaneous assembly election it is almost certain that Monday’s crucial left front meeting will decide on going in for the assembly poll and recommend to the state cabinet to this effect.

A special cabinet meeting has also been convened Monday. The term of the present 294member assembly is scheduled to expire in March next year.
