GUWAHATI: The 11-hour Assam bandh sponsored by All-Assam Students Union (AASU) to protest against alleged atrocities on the common tan by army in the slate passed off peacefully in the entire Brahmaputra valley without any repot of un-forward incident on Saturday.
Normal life in the Assamese-dominated valley came to a stand-still as banks, offices, shops and business establishments remained closed, while vehicular traffic was completely off the roads.
Al trains coming to and going out from Guwahati remained cancelled or terminated at different points before the bandh started at 5 am, on Saturday.
In Guwahati, police beat up several volunteers of the AASU for trying to prevent some offices from opening, while some businessmen of the city were also warmed by the district police for keeping their shutters down in support of the AASU bandh.
