BANGKOK, Sept. 26, Reuter: Japan’s top woman player Sumiko Kitada thrashed Sweden’s Christine Magnusson 114, 114 in just 15 minutes to get Asia away to lying start in their two-day badminton ‘competition against Europe on Saturday.

After the first day Asia was 40 ahead.

Kitada used a devastating smash and a powerful backhand to demolish Magnusson, a semifinalist in last ‘year’s European championships.

Malaysia’s Rashid Si played Dane Ib Frederiksen 1714, 1716 in a 45minute duel with a combination of dainty drop shots and accurate drives.

South Koreans Chung Maung Hee ‘and Hwang He Young defeated England’s Gillian Gowers and Gillian Clark 715, 154, 159 in the women’s doubles and Park Joo Bong and Kim Moon 500, also of South Korea, beat Danes Steen Fladberg and Jan Paulsen 159, 159, in the men’s doubles.
