A man who set fire to a building while a mother and her three year old child were inside was sentenced to four years in prison last month, for arson and attempted fraud, Justice William Somers said that Bhupinder Khuman, 48, had jeopardized the lives of the tenant and her young daughter when he set the building aflame in March of 1991 in an unsuccessful attempt to claim $500,000 in insurance.
The woman and the child escaped from the burning building. The judge expressed concern about the fire marshal’s discovery of an unexploded Molotov cocktail.
