FARIDKOT: Instead of making collective efforts towards restoring normalcy the Army and the police at village Puranewal in Faridkot district are at loggerheads over a piece of land.

According to sources on November 8 Harijans of the village lodged a complaint with the police that two brothers an ex-serviceman and a serving soldier forcibly took over shamlat land adjoining their house which the Harijans were using for dumping cow dung.

The police took away the soldier and allegedly beat him up in the police station the sources said. But army men upon being informed got the detained soldier released and allegedly misbehaved with policemen.

The Army men also reportedly picked up a Home Guard Jawans who was taken to the village and beaten up. The Jawans was also not allowed medication.

Sources said that Army men are pressurizing the Harijans to vacate the shamlat land which has forces some Harijans to flee the village.
