SRINAGAR: According to sketchy reports received here, militants ambushed an army in which four or five officers were killed. In retaliation the army unit attacked the nearest village. Details of casualties are not known but at least 24 houses were gutted.
The army was called out yet again Baramullah and Kapwara districts and similar measures were taken in Srinagar and other areas to prevent the people from celebrating Pakistan’s Independence Day on August 14.
Reports said despite troops deployed in police stations and army jawans guarded all govt building Pakistani flags were hoisted in several areas of the city.
Army men were conducting house to house searches in Baramullah even as most towns were placed under curfew.
