JAMMU: Army was deployed in sensitive areas of Kashmir and curfew relaxation was withdrawn Friday in Srinagar and other major towns to the violence hit valley as the militants gave a call to observe “martyrs day” marking the anniversary of the 1931 uprising against the erstwhile Maharajah of Kashmir.

Three persons were killed in different parts of the valley since ‘Thursday night in continuing violence by the secessionist Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front militants.

An official spokesman said curfew was imposed throughout Srinagar as a precautionary measure as militant groups had planned to take out a procession to a graveyard in the city.

Reports from Srinagar said curfew restrictions were being imposed strictly and at some places army units was patrolling along with para military forces.

Militants killed two people in Handwara town Thursday night while a dead body was recovered from the outskirts of Anantnag town in South Kashmir.

Meanwhile, advisors to the governor and senior police and security officials in the state, had reviewed the situation in Srinagar Friday morning, the reports said.

Authorities have ordered closure of higher educational institutions in the valley for four days from Friday.
