HYDERABAD: Following its decision not to implement the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA) in the State, the Andhra Pradesh Government has decided to release 51 TADA detainees on bail.

The Chief Minister, N.T.Rama Rao, reviewed all the 164 cases of TADA detainees and announced the decision at a press conference.

Of the 51 to be released, 49 are activists of the People’s War Group (PWG) of Naxalites and other extremist groups, including 11 women. Remaining two are Muslim fundamentalists,

The Chief Minister said that since the law came into force in 1985, 9,379 were arrested in 3,778 cases, However, 9,152 of them were released ‘on bail. Sixty three persons were convicted under the provisions of the act.
