SMASHING PACE: Said Aouita of Morocco ended Kenyan middle distance star Henry Rono’s 11 year reign as world 3,000m record holder, when he ran 7:29.46 at an international athletics meeting in Cologne on August 20. Rono’s record was 7:32.1 set in June 1978 in Oslo.
