LUDHIANA:  Mrs. Ambika Soni, joint secretary of the All India congress Committee (AICC) has been asked to look after the affairs of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) till its new president is appointed. Mr. Janardhan Oujari, general secretary of the AICC, who is in charge of the organizational affairs, in a letter to Mrs. Ambika Soni has stated that the president of the party has desired that she should look after the affairs of the PPCC till permanent arrangements are made.

The post of PPCC president became vacant following the acceptance of Mr. Virender Kataria’s resignation last week. Since then, Congressmen from Punjab have been pressing the party high command, including Mr. Prnab Mukherjee, to appoint a senior leader to look after the PPGC. Mr. Mukherjee is also understood to have asked Mrs. Soni to go to Chandigarh to take care of the PPCC. With the receipt of a formal letter today, Mrs. Soni agreed to go to Chandigarh tomorrow to take on the responsibility, Mr. Virender Kataria will also accompany her as she will formally take over from Mr. Kataria. Mrs. Soni is also reported to have spoken to the chief Minister, Mr. Harcharan Singh Brar, and told him about her proposed visit to Chandigarh. Certain congressmen had also complained to the party high command that Mr. Harcharan Singh Hero has started working as acting president of the PPCC, which was “‘illegal.”
