NEW DELHI (PTI): Centrist Janata Dal-Ajit (National group) leader Ajit Singh and nine deputies joined the Congress-I giving absolute majority to the Ruling party in lower house of the Indian Parliament on Thursday. Federal parliamentary affairs minister V.C. Shukla said Ajit Singh and nine members of his party had met speaker Shivraj Patil and prime minister P.V Narasimha Rao. They have been admitted into the Congress-I.

With the addition of 10 members of the Janata Dal (A) the strength of the ruling party in the house has gone up {0 266. The Lok Sahba has an effective strength of $28 with 1S vacancies

In a letter to the speaker Ajit Singh said a meeting of the JD (A) party in Parliament has resolved to merge with the Congress-I parliament party

The meeting he said was attended by more than two-thirds members. Besides Ajit Singh others who joined the Congress-I are Shivsharan Verma Satya Pal Singh Yadsy Ramavadh Harpal Panwar Ramnihor Rai Rambadan Rajnath Sonker Shastri Arjun Singh Yadav and Surya Narayan Yadav.

Three members of the Ajit group who have opted to remain out are Rashid Masood Shyam Sunder Das and Upendra Nath Verma.
