CALCUTTA: Mr Prasanta Sur, the west bengal health minister, said that Calcutta which was frequently visited by foreign sailors, tourists, businessmen and students, carried a “potential risk” of AIDS transmission.

Inaugurating the “world AIDS day” here, he pointed out the recent report of AIDS infection among large number of I.V. drug abusers in Manipur and said that it ‘was a matter of great concern to “us”.

He said that the spread of AIDS infection from such persons coming over to the metropolis was logical apprehension for which special attention must be paid.
