BURNABY, B.C. Fifty year old runner, Kartar Abluwalia, continues running, on Day 164, at a pace of a marathon each day, on his mission to run across Canada and raise $15 million for research and treatment Of life-threatening disorders affecting children, He is now wearing his fourth pair of running shoes, has traveled in weather that has kept others indoors, and even twisted his knee running against bitterly cold winds in Newfoundland,

The “Run for the Children” arrived in Sudbury, Ontario, on Thursday, July27th. Children from area playgrounds accompanied Kartar as he ran to the Civic Square, eleven days, and 294 Km further west, Kartar ran into the city of Saulte Ste Marie, on August 8th, where he was officially welcomed by city officials, media and local children. At the Civic reception Kartar cut a large cake, specially baked in Saulte Ste Marie, Depicted in icing around the cake were the words, “Congratulations Run for the Children, 4355 Km old”.

In her letter of support, Her Excellency, the Right Honorable Jeanne Sauve, Governor General of Canada, wrote,

“Health offers a particularly rich field for the universal expression of compassion and generosity.to the most vulnerable members of our society”, and, in saluting Kartar’ efforts, “You have contributed to the health, security and happiness which should be every child’s heritage”.
