It is perhaps for the first time in the history of Punjab that farmers have been forced to burn their produce. This was in protest against the Government’s failure to procure their paddy. Farmers from all over the state were facing great difficulty in the disposal of paddy this year as there were no buyers. Stocks worth crores of rupees were lying in the open and had been rotting for about a month.

Is it another attempt to teach the Sikh farmers of Punjab a lesson after the assassination of Indira Gandhi?
