NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court last week issued notices to Punjab Police chief K P S Gill and the state government on a habeas corpus petition filed by noted legal activist B L Wadhera on behalf of the father of missing youth who was allegedly picked up by the state police on July 2. Wadhera said moved the petition on Wednesday only hours after he received a telegram from one Chancal Singh father of the missing youth Gumam Singh.
The Petitioner a resident of Adda Chamiara village in Ajnala district of Punjab has alleged that the whereabouts of his son were not known ever since he was picked up by the Punjab Police.
The counsel said that he had also received a telephone call from Akali leader Simranjit Singh Mann who had confirmed the genuineness of the telegram and the allegations made therein. Meanwhile according to a report from Amritsar Guam Singh who was allegedly picked up by a Punjab Police mobile patrol party on July 2 from Chamari village in Ajnala sub-division of Majitha police district returned home on Tuesday night the 5th of July.
Gumam Singh who along with his father Chanchal Singh appeared before senior police officers of Majitha police district told media persons here on Thursday that since his abduction he had been confined to police custody and was released only on Tuesday night from Barnala town following the intervention of his relatives
Gumam Singh said Barnala and detained at the CIA Staff Center there I was interrogated and questioned by certain policemen who identified themselves as gunmen of the police captain he said.
Referring to his stay at Barnala the interrogators threatened him with dire Consequences if he did not give up the possession of a disputed piece of land belonging to the Gurdwara of his village he added.
