LUCKNOW (PTI): The Janata Dal in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh last week suffered a second jolt when seven of its legislators joined the ruling Samajwadi party led by state chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav

Ina fast moving political development at the state Janata Dal following the Split in its parliamentary party seven Dal legislators who after a meeting recently had formed # separate Janata group joined the Samajwadi party.

According to an official communique issued from the state Vidhan Sabha secretariat all the seven members of the group appeared before speaker Ram Dhani Verma and requested him to recognize their groups merger in the Samajwadi party whose leader Yadav had already given them the green signal This is the second split in the State Janata Dal since 1993 assembly election.

Ten of its 27 members of the Janata Dal had broken away to join the S P earlier.

The strength of the Janata Dal in the state assembly has now been reduced to 10.

The seven legislators who joined Samajwadi party are Ashok Chandel Vijai Singh Madan Gopal Verma Rakesh Sachan Virendra Mohan Singh Samarpal Singh and N. Vishwanath.

The strength of the Samajwadi party in the assembly has risen to 127

The latest party position in the 426 member state assembly is BJP177 Samajwadi party-127 BSP69 Congress(I)-28 JD-10 CPI-2 CPI(M)and UKD one each and the independents and others nine

Elections have not been held in the Jaswant Nagar constituency in Etawah district pending an election petition.
