JALANDHAR: Mystery still shrouds the death of under trial Satpal Singh, in the Central Jail here, last week, as the three member medical board constituted by the Medical Superintendent of the local civil hospital for conducting a postmortem of the deceased could not establish the exact cause leading to his death.

The patient was “brought dead’ to the civil hospital by the jail authorities, and was said to brave been electrocuted while putting his wet towel on the switch box installed on the wall outside the barrack. It is reliably learned that since the postmortem could not establish the cause of death as electrocution, the “viscera’ of the deceased have been sent for chemical examination to Patiala, the report of which is expected next week.

The postmortem itself was conducted after a prolonged confusion in which the relatives of the deceased first gave an application to AJ, Paul, Executive Magistrate to release the dead body without conducting a postmortem, Paul is holding ‘an enquiry into the incident. This was later over ruled by the sub divisional magistrate K.K, Sharma, who insisted on a postmortem as this, he said, is routinely done in cases where a magisterial enquiry is conducted. The two brothers of the deceased Kulwant Singh and Mangal Singh, ‘who along with other family members reached here from Amritsar, to collect the dead body, said that Satpal Singh had gone to perform Kar Seva at Guru_Ka Bagh Dera in Amatsar.
