SRINAGAR: A self-styled supreme commander” of the Pakistan based Lashkar-e-Toiba and eight militants ‘were among 21 people killed and 20 others wounded in unabated violence in Kashmir valley since last week.
Militants kidnapped Dr. MehrajudDin, Controller of Examinations of Kashmir University.
Dr. MehrajudDin was kidnapped by gunmen who barged in to his house in Hawal on the outskirts of Srinagar, No outfit has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping.
A powerful land mine killed at least five unidentified persons at Tujjar Sharief near Sopore town of Baramulla district.
Further details of the blast were awaited. The area was immediately cordoned off by security forces who launched a manhunt to trace those responsible for detonating the land mine.
Two foreign militants identified as Shamsur Rehman. “Amir-e-Aala”(supreme commander) of LashkareToiba and Hakeem Bai were killed in a fierce encounter which lasted for two days at Arizal Gullipora in Badgam district of central Kashmir, the official spokesman said.
