LUDHIANA: The Class IV employees of the local Municipal Corporation went on an indefinite strike on June 20 to press for the acceptance of their demands
A spokesman of the striking employees said the action committee had submitted a chance of demands to the corporation authorities and served an ultimatum of resorting to the agitational approach if their demands were not accepted within two weeks. Although there was no visible effect of the strike on Monday it was likely to adversely affect sanitation water supply and other essential services maintained by the civic body during the coming days. The demands of the striking employees include grant of bonus regularization of ad hoc employee’s corporation allowance pension and in term relief. When the attention of Punjab Local Bodies Minister Kewal Krishan who was in town was drawn towards the strike he said grant Of bonus was an internal matter to be decided by the civic body. The municipal authorities could go ahead and resolve the problem if they had adequate funds he said.
