LUDHIANA: Simranjit Singh Mann was June 18 removed from the presidents hip from the Akali Dal (Mann) and a presidium of six members set up to run the party.
The action against Mann was taken by a section of the Akali Dal (Mann) headed by Harcharan Singh Rode elder brother of Jamail Singh Bhindranwale Amarjit Singh Chawla a member of the presidium said the step was taken as Mann had joined the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) and united with Surjit Singh Barnala and Capt Amarinder Singh without consulting the Damdami Taksal chief and senior Akali Dal (M) leaders.
Chawla told reporters after the meeting that Mann had not consulted the party before submitting to the Akal Takht and had thus sabotaged the party unity. The two factions Akali Dal (Baba Joginder Singh) and the Sikh Students Federation (Mehta) had joined the Akali Dal (Mann) under instructions from Baba Thakar Singh acting chief of the Taksal according to Chawla.
He said today’s decision was taken following Baba Thakar Singhs directions and it was decided to retain the identity of the unified Akali Dal.
