NEW DELHI: Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh last week strongly pleaded for the creation of a “security zone” of the border states of Punjab Jammu and Kashmir Haryana and Himachal Pradesh to effectively combat the forces of terrorism being aided and instigated by Pakistan.
Stressing the need of effective coordination between different States he said that some antinational elements had tried to shift their hideouts to the other States after committing heinous crimes While seconding the political resolution proposed by Kerala Chief Minister K. Karunakaran at the AICC session here last week he said the respective state governments must take effective steps and help each other in nabbing the anti-social elements.
Beant Singh also asked the party leadership and workers to unitedly fight the communal and separatist forces which were posing a great threat to the unity and integrity of the country
Sounding a note of caution against these forces Beant Singh said these had tried “to eat the roots of our democratic system and damage our social structure.” Holding the Janata Dal BJP and the Akali Dal responsible for fanning such tendencies he said that they always divided the people on communal lines for attaining their narrow political goals. It is due to their misrule that the Pakistan could infiltrate in this country he added.
Referring to the restoration of peace and democratic process in the state of Punjab Beant Singh said that the present government had been able to win the confidence of the people and was successful in establishing complete normalcy in the state. He said that earlier the Chandra Shekhar Government tried to play nefarious games by handing over the reins of the state to anti-national and communal elements.
