AMRITSAR: Akali Dal (B) leader and former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has asked Chief Minister Beant Singh to quit and seek a fresh mandate from the people of Punjab

Talking to media persons here last week after the victory of party candidate Rattan Singh from the Ajnala Assembly seat Badal said people of the state did not want a government which used repressive measures to Curb the freedom SY a. common man.

He expressed his gratitude to all Organizations and political parties Particularly the BJP Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) Communist party of India (CPI) CPI(M) a Janata Morcha (PJM) and employees’ unions who had wholeheartedly supported his party during this election.

The Akali leader said the Congress would have lost by a much wider margin had the polling taken place on May 26

it was a fatwa (verdict) of the people not only against the minority government of Beant Singh but also an eye-opener to other Akalis who were misusing religion for their own vested interests Badal said adding that it would be a turning point in the state politics

The former Chief Minister said the people of the state wanted a change and his pany would form the government in the next general elections.
