PATIALA: Sikh scholar and historian Principal Satbir Singh who was the member of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) for the last 35, years since 1959 died here on Wednesday morning August 17th.

 Satbir Singh had a massive heart, attack while he was attending a meeting of the Khalsa College Managing Committee here. He was immediately rushed to the Rajindra Hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead.

The news of his decease sent a way of shock and gloom in the, city’s academic circles. SGPC» president Gurehar in Singh Tohra_ who was also present at the meeting also accompanied Satbir Singh to the hospital. His body was immediately shifted to his residence, here. He leaves behind his three daughters and one son.

Meanwhile, in Amritsar, the offices of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak (SGPC) Committee were closed on Thursday, as a” mark of respect to Principal Satbir Singh. ‘The Akali Dal (Amritsar) ad hoe committee member Jagdev Singh Talwandi while paying glowing tributes to Satbir Singh here said his services towards up liftmen of Sikhism would always be remembered. The late Principal would always be remembered for his contributions in the Acid of deration and in promoting Sikh religion, history and culture.

Haryana Akali Dal, at a meeting, held at Babri Sahib Gurdwara, Ambela on Thursday, condoled the death of Satbir Singh.
